I would like to thank the Richton Community for a great start for the 2013-2014 School year. We have met with parents in grades K-2 to discuss the changes in the grading system and new approach to teaching reading. Grades 3-6 were given a package with information pertaining to your child’s academic progress. Grades 4-6 recieved MCT2 test scores from May 2013. MAP Assessments were given the first two weeks of this school year; your child's scores were in the information packet. We want to inform all parents about Governor Phil Bryant’s “Third Grade Gate”, Senate Bill 2347, that will require ALL students read “on grade level” by the end of third grade and end social promotion of third grade students who are not reading on grade level. If a student is not on level by third grade, they can’t move on to fourth grade. We are building safety nets to provide proper instruction for all children. We need to have parents become aware your child’s current reading level and what you can do at home to help us make your child successful.
I am a wife, mother and love being an educator at East Marion High School.
